Tidewater tells the story of Mason Tidewater—his childhood and
coming-of-age in Brooklyn in the early part of the 20th century;
his early triumphs and rise to stardom in the Negro American Baseball
League; and—in Havana, Cuba, in 1927, where all-white major league
baseball teams regularly played against all-black teams from the
Negro Leagues—his rivalry, friendship, and love affair with Babe Ruth.
